CHARTRES
90 minutes away from Paris you will find Chartres an its magnificent 12th- to 13th-century Notre Dame Cathedral which was one of the first great Gothic cathedrals built with twin spires and complex flying buttresses. The elongated, highly stylized sculptures on the west front and the column structure are typical of early Gothic style. The famed “Bleu de Chartres” stained glass includes three glorious rose windows; other windows depict Biblical scenes, saints, and medieval trades. It remains one of the best-preserved Gothic buildings in France.
Afterwards you will be able to stroll along the medieval city. |
